What Nate-Certification Is and Why It Matters

NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence and, as mentioned on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed nearly 20 years ago and is supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all technicians in the industry are required to be NATE-certified. The certification is voluntary and technicians can work in the heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration industry without being certified through NATE.

To make sure experts meet these standards, the NATE-certification tests validate real-world working knowledge of HVACR systems for technicians. The assessments are knowledge-based assessments that assess the technician’s knowledge of these criteria.
